You do not need a studio, an easel or any drawing ability. We arrive with the model, the sketchpads, the pencils and the boards, set up in the room you have chosen, and take everything away afterwards.

Session Format
What Happens During the 90 Minutes
The session runs to a fixed structure. It is the same in Harrogate as it is anywhere else we work, and it is worth knowing before you book so nothing about the format is a surprise on the day.
The First 45 Minutes: Drawing
Your model poses fully nude for this half. Your group sketches from a set of held poses, with short drawing games between them to keep things moving. Everyone gets a sketchpad, pencils and a board, so nobody needs a table.
This is not a taught art class. There is no tutor, no demonstration of shading or proportion, and no critique at the end.
Photography and filming are not permitted during this half. That applies to phones as well as cameras, and it is a condition of the booking rather than a preference.
The Second 45 Minutes: Butler Hosting
Your model then dresses in the butler outfit — a front-covering apron worn over bare skin, with a collar, cuffs and a bow tie — and switches to hosting.
He serves your group, runs party games and helps with group photos. He stays covered by the apron for the whole of this half.
Full nudity applies to the drawing half only, which is the main practical difference between a life drawing booking and a standard buff butler booking.
If your group specifically wants instruction, a studio-based class in Harrogate will suit you better than we will, and we would rather say so here than have you find out afterwards.
Physical contact with the entertainer is not permitted at any point in the booking, in either half. If those boundaries are ignored, the entertainer can end the session and leave; what happens to any payment in that situation is determined by the Terms and Conditions applying to your booking.
Photography is fine during the butler hosting half. Setup and pack-down sit outside the 90 minutes, so the time you book is the time your group actually gets.

Life drawing suits hen parties, birthdays, milestone celebrations and any adult group that wants a private activity at their own venue rather than a night out.
Work socials are booked too, though a workplace booking is worth agreeing in advance with everyone attending rather than presenting it as a surprise.
Two conditions apply to every booking, and neither is flexible:

Everyone present in the property must be 18 or older. This is not limited to the people drawing.
If someone is at the venue during the session — including a family member staying in the same rental who does not intend to join in — they need to be 18 or over, or elsewhere for the 90 minutes.
Mixed groups are welcome. So are groups where only some people want to draw; there is no obligation to pick up a pencil, and nobody is put on the spot.
If anyone in your group is uneasy about the nude element, it is worth reading this section together before you pay a deposit. The format does not change on the day, and a group that has agreed on it in advance has a much better time.

Travel is always quoted on top and is worked out by distance to your address, not by a fixed list of postcodes. That is why a town-centre address off Parliament Street and a cottage out past Pateley Bridge can come back with different totals for the same session.

Your Venue and the Room You Use
The nude element makes the room matter more than it would for a standard party booking. A few things are worth checking before you commit to a property.
A Room That Closes
One room your group can shut off for 45 minutes, without anyone walking through it.
Sightlines from Outside
Ground-floor front rooms on the townhouse streets around the centre often have large bay windows. Curtains or blinds that actually close solve this; check rather than assume.
A Private Changing Space
A bedroom or bathroom the model can use, separate from the room your group is in.
Shared Entrances and Stairs
Plenty of Harrogate rentals are conversions within larger Victorian and Edwardian buildings, with shared hallways and other flats on the same staircase. That is workable, but it is worth knowing the layout in advance.
Permission matters. If you are in an Airbnb, a serviced apartment, a cottage let or a hotel, tell the owner or venue what you are booking and get their agreement first. Some properties are happy; some are not. Finding out beforehand is a great deal easier than finding out on the night.

Getting the group there is straightforward without cars. The Harrogate line runs Leeds–Harrogate–Knaresborough–York, with the station on Station Parade in the centre, so guests coming in from either direction can arrive on foot at the front door.
For anyone driving, the A61 and A59 cross in the town, and the A1(M) is roughly seven and a half miles east.

Can someone under 18 be in the property if they are not taking part?
No. The 18+ rule covers everyone present at the venue during the session, not only the people drawing.
Do we need to be able to draw?
No. There is no tuition and nothing is assessed. Most people arrive having not drawn anything since school, which is rather the point.
Can we take photos?
Not during the first 45 minutes, when the model is posing. Photography is welcome during the butler half.
Do you provide drinks?
